Greek-Canadian soprano Andromahi Raptis has recently been praised as “the shining star of the evening” (Süddeutsche Zeitung) and for her “colourful and capable, shimmering timbre” (Donaukurier). Her “radiant voice and acting abilities” were honoured with a Bavarian Arts Advancement Award in 2021.

A current ensemble member at Staatstheater Nürnberg, she takes the stage in the 2023-2024 season in the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor and as Adele in Die Fledermaus, Zerlina in Don Giovanni and a Blumenmädchen in Parsifal. In Nürnberg, her roles to date include Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Sophie Scholl (Weiße Rose), Maria (West Side Story), Musetta (La Bohème), Isabella (Märchen im Grandhotel), Frasquita (Carmen), Atalanta (Serse), Julia (Der Vetter aus Dingsda), Tangolita (Ball im Savoy), Falke (Die Frau ohne Schatten) and La Musica (L’Orfeo). She sang the role of Mme KI in the world premiere of Anno Schreier’s Turing and also ventured into the acting world for a multidisciplinary play, vendetta vendetta, where she contributed the Queen of the Night and Lulu arias. Curt Magazin distinguished her portrayal of Despina (Così fan tutte) as a highlight of the entire 2018-2019 theatre season.

Andromahi debuted at Komische Oper Berlin as the Rooster in the new children’s opera Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten in 2017. That same season saw her debut at Staatsoper Hamburg as Elisabeth in the world premiere of Jan Dvořák’s Frankenstein, for which she was praised as “a discovery” (Das Opernmagazin). The young soprano was a member of the studio of l’Opéra de Lyon, France, in 2016, where she sang Bubikopf in Der Kaiser von Atlantis. In 2017, she took Munich’s Prinzregententheater by storm with the demanding part of the Controller in Jonathan Dove’s Flight. Andromahi has also appeared at Staatsoper Hannover, Gärtnerplatz Theater, Oper Halle, Anhaltisches Theater Dessau and the Kurt Weill Festival. Her further repertoire includes Ilia (Idomeneo), Mabel (The Pirates of Penzance), Amanda (Der Teufel auf Erden), Clorinde (Dr. Faust jun.) and Johanna (Sweeney Todd). In Toronto, she was a chorus member with Opera Atelier under the artistic direction of Marshall Pynkoski.

An avid performer of contemporary music, Andromahi has premiered several new works, such as Oriol Cruxient’s Manifest with the Münchner Rundfunk Orchester under the baton of Ulf Schirmer and Konstantia Gourzi’s Eros with the Bayerische Staatsorchester. She portrayed the soprano part in Claude Vivier’s Kopernikus with the 2014 Münchener Biennale and undertook the role of the first soprano in Wolfgang Rihm’s Jakob Lenz at Staatstheater Nürnberg. In 2019, she was awarded second prize at the 11th International Hilde Zadek Voice Competition, which emphasises 21st century opera.

In the concert realm, Andromahi recently sang the part of Gabriel in Haydn’s Die Schöpfung with Joana Mallwitz at Staatstheater Nürnberg. She has also been heard as Soprano I in Mozart’s Mass in C Minor and in Orff’s Carmina Burana. She enriched her connection to German art song at the Franz-Schubert-Institut in 2012. The Hidalgo Festival in Munich welcomes her regularly for various song performances.

After obtaining an Honours Bachelor’s in Voice from the University of Toronto, Canada, Andromahi moved to Germany in 2013 to pursue a Master’s in Voice at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and then a Master’s in Opera at the Theaterakademie August Everding.
